Trustee Opportunities, Exeter

Exeter-based charity, St Petrock and Heavitree Lands Charity has a long history in supporting people with their housing needs and today owns seventy almshouses across the City of Exeter.  The charity provides accommodation for local people with limited income, typically of retirement age.  As a result of investment portfolio success, the charity has recently been able to complete a new build of twenty-two new almshouses.  It is hoped they may potentially be able to repeat this again in future years, thus benefitting a greater number of older people in need of support.

New Trustees are currently being sought to bring additional expertise to the Board in the areas of financial management, social welfare and property and building pathology.   The Board meets quarterly in Exeter with sub-committees meeting as required.  To find out more about the Charity and how to apply, please download the Information Pack.  You can also contact Recruitment Partner, Jackie Dawkins at Shine Charity Recruitment, for a discussion about Trusteeship.  Jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk

TRUSTEE OPPORTUNITIES, HAVENCARE HOMES AND SUPPORT, Plymouth

“Havencare Plymouth” was formed in 1987 to enable people with a learning disability to move from long-stay institutions (hospital wards) to something much better. Back then, “something better” was often a residential service in the community nearer to their original home and families.

Fast-forward to today… we are Havencare Homes and Support, supporting people in their own homes with their own tenancies, from Penzance in Cornwall to Teignmouth in Devon. Our charity is continuing to grow and reach more people across the South West.  We support people to live the life they choose and find a home that’s right for them.

We have an annual income of c£10m, 260 staff and an exciting vision for the future.  We are now looking for two new Trustees to join our committed and enthusiastic Board to support the charity to deliver our next chapter.  We are particularly interested in speaking to people who can bring experience/expertise in the areas of social housing, strategic HR/people leadership, law, or marketing/communications.

We are being supported by Jackie Dawkins of Shine Charity Recruitment in our search for new Trustees.  She will be very happy to speak to you about the opportunity and trusteeship (jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk)

Please see the attached information pack for further information about Havencare and how to apply.

Keeping it in the family

It’s always busy here at Shine Towers but this year is looking particularly so. Finding someone I trust to deal with advertising, invoicing and event administration is really important and I have managed mostly on my own since AdminAnnie deserted me to go and be a struggling artist. So it is with great pleasure I introduce Penny Konig who will be taking up that mantle and has joined the Shine family (to be fair she is actually family which I why I trust her so much). Be kind to her, she is still being inducted.

Double Trouble

Great to see this one today at the BoardTalk Lunch, we never fail to make each other laugh and can be quite professional at times. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and also some new ones and , as usual, the Cullompton Community Centre really looked after us. Looking forward to the next one, which will probably in August – watch this space

BoardTalk is back – but it’s lunch this time

After a quiet period post-Covid and acquiring new Sponsors, Brewin Dolphin, BoardTalk had it’s first lunch event at the Cullompton Community Centre in January 2024. Sarah Pryce was scheduled to facilitate but failed to bring her voice with her and so Paul Courtney, the seasoned professional that he is, stepped in and led the delegates through some lively discussions.

The next lunch event is on the 24th April, back at the Cullompton Community Centre by popular demand. We shall be deliberating how we, as charity leaders, ensure that the trustee role is stimulating and meaningful enough to aid retention and engagement. This is an invitation only event, if you feel you should be on that invitation list, please contact me (jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk)

CHAIR OF TRUSTEES, EXETER CANAL AND QUAY TRUST

Formed in 1981,  the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust renovates, develops and leases out the heritage quayside properties and spaces and also funds relevant projects such as the Quay Words Literary Programme, the Exeter Heritage Harbour Festival and the Summer at the Quayside activity programme.  More recently the Custom House has also been transferred to its property portfolio. This is a Grade I Listed building that needs ongoing maintenance and has now been become a cultural  Hub.  The Trust is excited about further developing its role in the community and is now seeking a new Chair to support the Board and Trust to deliver this aspiration.

We are delighted to be working with ECQT to support their recruitment process.  We are keen to speak to people who are interested in the heritage and future potential of the area and are excited about the opportunities ahead.  You will need to bring sound governance knowledge, experience of chairing meetings, emotional intelligence, financial acumen and, of course, the time to dedicate to the role.

For an initial discussion, please contact Jackie Dawkins at Shine Charity Recruitment (jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk)

Further information can be found at the ECQT website https://www.exeterquay.org/ and by downloading the Information Pack

Please contact Jackie for the 2023 Annual Report and the ECQT Application Form

The closing date is 5th July 2024
